Description

Type: Red Wine
Grape(s): 100% Tempranillo
Wine Region: Rioja, Spain

Tasting Notes:  Sappy tannins, black cherry fruit and very subtle wood combine beautifully on the palate. Paso Las Mañas is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes and is a young, vibrant, fresh and simple Rioja.

The Estate: Paso Las Mañas comes from a high-altitude zone in Samaniego called El Chorro. The vines are still young at only eight years' old, but this gives a wonderfully balanced, concentrated wine with remarkable freshness, precision and chalky focus. Jancis Robinson & Tim Atkin regard Bodegas Artuke and Paso Las Manas vineyard as one of Spain's finest single sites.

Suggested food and wine pairing: Rioja is traditionally the perfect partner for lamb and Paso Las Manas from Artuke fits that bill perfectly, would also be great with fillet steak.

Artuke

Artuke is revolutionising winemaking in a region steeped in tradition and we are proud to have been at the forefront of this in the UK, collaborating with the modern-day pioneer for over a decade.

Artuke's wines are crafted to pair perfectly with food, yet they break from the traditional Rioja labelling rules regarding ageing and barrels. Regulations specify 225-litre barrels, but winemaker Arturo believes these smaller barrels impart too much flavour and overpower the fruit. Instead, they focuses on wine growing, not just wine making.

They prioritise doing what's right to produce the best wine, emphasising acidity over high extraction and alcohol levels. Their wines showcase the unique characteristics of different vineyard areas, similar to Burgundy, where the vineyard's terroir is more significant than the estate. For instance, Paso Las Mañas and Finca de los Locos would be akin to Premier Cru vineyards, while Escolladero and La Condenada would have Grand Cru status.

Artuke's single vineyard wines are made using the same methods, with differences resulting from the vineyard's influence. They create terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention, highlighting the raw materials and the region in ways previously overlooked.
