Finca de los Locos Rioja, Artuke
Type: Red Wine
Grape(s): Tempranillo (80%), Graciano (20%)
Wine Region: Rioja, Spain
Tasting Notes: Finca de los Locos is elegant and structured, ripe red fruit aromas combined with roasted and herbal notes. Light mineral base. Artuke Finca Los Locos is a powerful, balanced and amiable wine. On the nose, it clearly reflects the ripe red fruit on a shy toasted background of its ageing.
The Vineyard: Finca los Locos is one of Bodegas Artuke's famous single-vineyard wines. Not a traditional style of Rioja but certainly one of the finest wines from Spain's most famous wine region. Finca los Locos is so called as Artuke were told that they would be crazy to try to try to produce a wine from this vineyard site. Not only did Artuke prove everyone wrong but it is a stellar wine.
Suggested food and wine pairing: The wines of Rioja traditionally pair well with lamb and Artuke's Finca los Locos is a great example of this majestic partnership but it would work equally well with all red meats.

Artuke
Artuke is revolutionising winemaking in a region steeped in tradition and we are proud to have been at the forefront of this in the UK, collaborating with the modern-day pioneer for over a decade.
Artuke's wines are crafted to pair perfectly with food, yet they break from the traditional Rioja labelling rules regarding ageing and barrels. Regulations specify 225-litre barrels, but winemaker Arturo believes these smaller barrels impart too much flavour and overpower the fruit. Instead, they focuses on wine growing, not just wine making.
They prioritise doing what's right to produce the best wine, emphasising acidity over high extraction and alcohol levels. Their wines showcase the unique characteristics of different vineyard areas, similar to Burgundy, where the vineyard's terroir is more significant than the estate. For instance, Paso Las Mañas and Finca de los Locos would be akin to Premier Cru vineyards, while Escolladero and La Condenada would have Grand Cru status.
Artuke's single vineyard wines are made using the same methods, with differences resulting from the vineyard's influence. They create terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention, highlighting the raw materials and the region in ways previously overlooked.
