It's high time we properly introduced you to Meg, our Marketing Manager and social media supremo!
Meg's work at a fellow local business had not gone unnoticed, as her fresh and dynamic approach to social media kept cropping up in our feeds. So, when a chance meeting led her to express an interest in joining our business, we jumped at the chance.
Meg grew up right here in Truro and previously owned a clothing shop. She's also had other roles in sales and marketing, and you might have seen her on the local festival circuit decorating people in glitter!
Anyone visiting the shop in the run up to Christmas would have enjoyed her friendly personality, excellent customer service and experienced her growing confidence in recommending wines. She breezed her WSET Level 1 and learnt the intricacies of Champagne at a recent day-long course hosted by Hospitality Table Cornwall.
We're thrilled to have Meg onboard, acting as a huge driving force for our future plans. Read on for a quick Q&A with the queen of sparkles herself...
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU INTO THE WORLD OF WINE?
I came into the business back in September to specialise in marketing and predominantly up the social media side of things. The world of wine was completely new to me! I have really enjoyed using my social media background to help bring the world of wine more to the forefront of people's minds, whilst also learning myself.
WHAT’S YOUR ROLE HERE AT OLD CHAPEL CELLARS?
My title here at Old Chapel is Marketing Manager. My job is to look after the social media and general marketing activity, and help spread the word about our amazing business. I am also one of the points of contact for our brilliant Wholesale clients.
ARE YOU ENJOYING LEARNING MORE ABOUT WINE?
Absolutely! I am not afraid to admit that when I first came into the business, my wine knowledge went as far as knowing the difference between Red, White and Rose! There is so much more to wine than I could have ever imagined and, after just passing my level 1 WSET, I hope this gives any newbies to wine the confidence to give it a go - it really is so interesting!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOUR JOB, AND WORKING IN THE WINE BUSINESS GENERALLY?
I absolutely love the people that I work with. Being such a small team we are all really close and always sharing what we are currently working on. Coming into the business completely new to wine, I always thought of the subject as being quite intimidating which I very quickly learnt that it wasn't. I am really enjoying using what I have learnt to change people's perspectives via social media to bring a fun side to the subject and hopefully encourage more people to pay our shop here in Truro a visit.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE OF WINE?
If I could choose with no budget it would have to be Champagne! I am totally a fizz kind of girl and we have some really amazing Champagnes in our portfolio. I recently participated in a Champagne for Business course with Elly Owen and learnt so much about the different champagne houses and production method. It really makes you appreciate what you're drinking when you know the time and effort that goes into every bottle.
WHAT BOTTLE WILL YOU BE TAKING HOME AT THE WEEKEND?
My current favourite is Martinez Lacuesta Selecto Rioja. I first tried this at a tasting we hosted at Old Chapel with the winery itself, and it has since become a firm favourite. It also goes great with Roast Beef, which is what I am planning to cook on Sunday!
WHICH WINE REGION OF THE WORLD WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT?
I would really love to visit Champagne. As this is one of my favourite styles to drink, I would really love to go there myself to experience the different Champagne houses and widen my knowledge further.
