Here at Old Chapel Cellars we import directly from the family run business of Château Haut Pougnan. Situated in the heart of Entre-Deux-Mers, meaning between two tides, you will find Château Haut Pougnan to the right of River
Garonne.
This area is surrounded by beautiful calcareous and clay-limestone/gravelly soils. It is the clay-limestone nature of these soils
which makes it possible to obtain very fine wines with such subtle aromas.

Our relationship with Haut Pougnan is a personal one and we have visited the family on several occasions. There is mutual trust and respect. Charmingly, the invoices are still sent by post and are hand written.

Chateau Haut Pougnan Rouge is predominantly Merlot (50%) & Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) with Cabernet Franc in support of a classic red Bordeaux blend. This wine exhibits rich and fruity flavours, with supple tannins and well balanced with acidity. Offering soft bramble fruit flavours with vanilla notes from time spent ageing in oak barrels. This is the only red that Haut Pougnan produces and it gives a clear style to the vintage of Bordeaux in each year.
Chateau Haut Pougnan Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (70%) and Semillion (25%). The last 5% is Muscadelle which gives a bit of extra weight to this classic white Bordeaux blend. This is a fresh and grassy Sauvignon Blanc that is dry
and very food friendly.
