Description

Type: White Wine
Grape(s): Chardonnay
Wine Region: Gisborne, New Zealand

Tasting Notes: Named after Bill Irwin, Matawhero winery's founder and the man responsible for importing new grape varieties into New Zealand, this barrel fermented Chardonnay is made in tiny quantities (3060 bottles) in only the very best years.

It's a rich, ripe style of Chardonnay where peach and melon flavours are overlaid by finely integrated, toasty oak, finishing with a taut, harmonious acidity. This wine drinks beautifully now but will reward careful cellaring for 5-10 years.

Suggested food and wine pairing: Perfect with scallops, crayfish and other seafood.

The most memorable glass of wine I’ve had in a long long time! Have been in since for another one.
